His Excellency "Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam" interacts with students at Ignite 2015

Agni College of Technology, Thalambur, Chennai organised Ignite 2015 - "A State Level School Students Science Project Competition" at the college premises on Friday, 17th April 2015.His Excellency, Bharat Ratna A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India was the chief guest on the occasion.

Addressing the students,Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam urged them to be unique and strive for the culture of excellence in their chosen field. Kalam asserted that man is a great resource and is above the fear of failure. Calling technology the backbone of the nation, he urged the budding students to think for the welfare and development of entire humanity. Citing anecdotes from lives of great scientist such as Faraday, Edison, C.V.Raman and Ramanujan, he urged the student to dream big and be unique. Inventions and discoveries are from creative minds with constant efforts, the pioneer nuclear scientist said.

Solar energy, research and control over global climate change, waste disposal and sanitation, quality of water, clean energy and convergence of technology, are some of the areas where we must do the research in the near future, stressed former president.

Welcoming the gathering, Mr. J. Agnishwar, Director, Agni CRD traced the genesis behind the Ignite-2015. More than 30,000 students covering 7,000 schools from all over the state participated in the school, district and state level Project display competitions. The final state level competition is being conducted as a Science reality show- 7aum Arivu. The 60 bright participants have been selected for the show. The winners will get the grand prize, an apartment worth Rs. 30 Lakhs other prizes worth Rs.15 Lakhs.

Mr. Syed Munir Hoda, Honorary Advisor, Agni College of Technology congratulated the young students for their creative endeavor.

Dr. S.R.R. Senthil Kumar, Principal,Agni College of Technology proposed the vote of thanks.

The afternoon session commenced with the inspiring speech of Kirtanya Krishnamurthy, Founder and CEO, MindFresh Training. In her speech, she demonstrated the importance of having right attitude to succeed in life. She recalled how since childhood our mind has been conditioned to think and behave in certain ways. To succeed in life, we have to change our attitude towards the problems, she stressed.

Dr.T.S. Natarajan, Professor, IIT, Madras demonstrated through practical-scientific activity the fundamentals and basic principles of science.

In his speech,Mr.J. Sujith Kumar, Location Head HR, Infosys, Chennai urged students to choose the right career based on their aptitude and strength.
