With a view to honoring the commitment and dedication of the science teachers in various schools, Agni College of Technology (ACT), Thalambur, Chennai, hosted an epoch-making event to commemorate the NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY and NATIONAL INNOVATION DAY, on Sunday, 24th February 2019 at the college premises. In the event, more than 500 teachers from Physics, Chemistry, Maths and other science disciplines were honored with Agni Dronacharya Award for their outstanding contribution in motivating, mentoring and monitoring useful scientific innovations at the school level. More than 150 schools were adjudged as Best Schools for mentoring innovation and product development among school students, and were honored with Agni Gurukul Award. Addressing the gathering, the Guest of Honor, Kalaimamani.Thiru.Sugi Sivam, a veteran speaker, insisted that teachers should play a pivotal role in identifying the individual skills and talent of the student and nurture his/her inherent skills. He added that more than parents, it is a teacher who is responsible for sculpting the character and career of our students. Science teachers should become role models for students to emulate and they should inspire students to innovate and create new technology and devices, he noted.
In his address, the guest of honor, Dr.Sultan Ismail D.Sc, observed that the present science curriculum of the Tamilnadu State Board is more standardized than the CBSE one. He touched upon nurturing the scientific spirit of inquiry and research among school children. The Chief Guest, Ms. Kavitha Ramu IAS, spoke about the need for inculcating value-based education and promoting a holistic growth among the present generation of students. The event was presided by Mr. R.N. Jayaprakash, Managing Trustee in the presence of Mrs. Bhavani Jayaprakash, Chairperson and Mr. Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Vice Chairman, who welcomed the gathering.
